Future-proofing for the Next Generation
Ever since Fred stepped back from running the farm, he has taken a keen interest in tree planting. After being introduced to the Heretaunga Tramping Club and exploring with them some of NZ’s brilliant flora, growing and planting natives has become a passion project of his.
Over the years, Fred has cultivated a nursery of native trees inside an unused shed. When the trees are ripe for planting, he heads out towards unused or unproductive areas of land and gets to work. This includes planting along waterways and erosion prone areas around the farm. He has also worked alongside the Maraetotara Tree Trust in replanting the Maraetotara Stream in natives.
Fred’s dedication to nurturing and planting natives means that future generations will be able to enjoy the benefits of a Greener farm.
