To find the best bulls for breeding, selection for structural soundness and temperament is made at every yarding from birth to sale day.

Animals that do not meet our standard are finished and culled. Along the way we treat all animals as follows - take a peak to see what we do!

  1. Mating details recorded, dam's mating observations made. Ultrasound Pregnancy Testing with due to calve dates recorded for management and mating data accuracy.

  2. Calf double tagged, date, weight, dam, calving ease, eye pigment recorded on the day of birth.

  3. Calf registered with NZ Herefords and all mating, birth, performance data including Genomics and muscle scanning is submitted as it is recorded and genetic merit is evaluated monthly by BREEDPLAN and results assessed.

  4. Tissue sampled for DNA/Genomics, Genetic Diseases , Sire Verification and BVD test with PBBnz and Neogen Australasia - Genomics & Animal Safety.

  5. Vaccination + Booster with Hiprabovis (for IBR - Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis, PI-3 - Parainfluenza – 3 and BVD - Bovine Viral Diarrhoea), Covexin-10 (Clostridia Diseases) and Leptoshield (Leptospirosis) VetsOne Hastings.

  6. Copper Capsule all stock Boehringer Ingelheim - Livestock NZ and Rumensin Bloat Bullet if required.

  7. Regular drench program with rotating drenches such as Matrix C Hi Mineral and Turbo.

  8. Regular weight monitoring Datamars Livestock NZ.

  9. Regular health monitoring.

  10. Ultrasound muscle scanning measuring Eye Muscle Area, Fat Depth and Intra Muscular Fat %.

  11. Scrotal Size measurement recorded.

  12. Semen and service tested - Bull Breeding Soundness Evaluation Tararua Breeding Centre

  13. Individual animal health treatments, location, stock movements and NAIT transfers recorded on Farm IQ Systems
